This Spring we were invited to support the Bearpit Improvement Group (BIG) in their consultation around their next steps for the Bearpit. Having seen extensive transformation over recent years, including paving, step access, new cafes, stalls and businesses and stair access, BIG are now asking communities what would make the space theirs – and we helped them find out.
We designed up a short questionnaire that was distributed in print and online, with the key question being around whether people wanted to see an indoor community space at the Bearpit. We also asked what type of temporary activities people would like to see in the space – which were responded to as widely as dance sessions to artists-in-residence to more food stalls…
Using our heart and cross we asked people to respond to what they loved and hated about the Bearpit too, which gained a vast array of responses around this rather infamous local spot!
It was one of the first sunny days of the year and the atmosphere was fantastic – with people passing by and stopping to tell us their ideas, the smell of delicious hot food wafting over, skaters whizzing past and blossom coming out in the trees around us.
We gathered 170 responses in total, which will inform BIG’s next plans for the Bearpit. Watch this space!
